In a recent briefing to the media, KIA Asia Pacific revealed four nameplates that might arrive in Malaysia between 2022 and 2023. The four vehicles on the way are all-new models, bringing much refreshment to the line-up. Among the four, three are nameplates that we are familiar with and the remaining is the Korean carmaker’s latest addition to their global lineup.

The first slated for 2022 is the all-new Kia Carnival. The many-seater MPV will be offered in two drive trains, starting with the internal combustion engine. A hybrid EV is also in the cards, but this won’t arrive until 2024.

Next on 2022’s list is the all-new Kia Sorento. Cousin to the Hyundai Santa Fe, the large SUV will have an internal combustion engine for motivation. Bringing variety to the drivetrain mix are PHEV and HEV models. All models should be introduced at the same time.

It won’t be until 2023 that we will see the all-new Kia Sportage. The new SUV arrives with the new-designed boomerang daytime running lights. The Sportage will be introduced first with the internal combustion engine. Like the Carnival, the HEV version will only arrive in 2024.

The most intriguing model in the line-up is the all-new Kia Niro. The compact crossover is designed ground-up with sustainability in mind, from materials used to the drivetrain. Coming in 2023, the Niro will be offered with PHEV, HEV and BEV drivetrains.

It is wise to keep in mind that nothing is yet set in stone. From now till then, plenty could happen that spoil the best plans for the party.

In the same press briefing, KIA Asia Pacific also revealed plans to make Malaysia the export hub of the South East Asia region. The company’s intention to setup a CKD program is key to achieve that goal.
