The refreshed BMW 520i was unveiled alongside the all-new BMW i5 M60 xDrive at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. Like its electric counterpart, the exterior on the New BMW 520i features a similar design to the BMW i5, showcasing a sleek and sporty exterior design language. With its elongated silhouette, culminating in a harmoniously designed sporty rear section, the New BMW 520i now runs on new 19-inch aerodynamic wheels 934 bicolour grey.
Inside, the BMW 520i features a two-spoked steering wheel with integrated controls in its horizontal spokes, providing convenient access to various functions. A flattened bottom section, a first for the BMW 5 Series, adds a sporty touch to the steering wheel.
Other notable features include the driver-oriented BMW Curved Display, comprising a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen Control Display. The innovative illuminated BMW Interaction Bar simplifies control of the air conditioning and other functions, enhancing the driving experience. Additionally, a wireless charging tray ensures smartphones stay powered up on the go. While the iDrive Controller and other elements in the centre console control panel have been redesigned, they retain their intuitive functionality, ensuring effortless operation for drivers.
The new BMW 520i is powered by the revered B48 4-cylinder engine, now in 48V mild hybrid form, a technology previously seen in the BMW X7. This powertrain configuration delivers a robust performance, generating 208hp and a torque of 330Nm – enabling the BMW 520i to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 230kph. The BMW 520i’s mild hybrid system also enhances efficiency and reduces emissions, whether cruising along the highways or navigating urban streets, offering a refined driving experience that blends power, efficiency, and luxury seamlessly.
The Driving Assistant Plus in the BMW 520i elevates driving safety and convenience with its comprehensive suite of camera- and radar-based driver assistance systems, including the Active Cruise Control, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, as well as the Lane Departure Warning system. With these advanced features, the Driving Assistant Plus ensures a safer and more comfortable driving experience in the BMW 520i.
The BMW 520i is offered in a selection of stunning exterior colours, including Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Phytonic Blue Metallic, and Cape York Green Metallic. Upholstery is offered in two luxurious options, the Veganza Perforated with Quilted Black and the Veganza Perforated with Quilted Espresso Brown.
Price for the BMW 520i is estimated to start from RM340,000 on the road and will be locally assembled.
