Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has opened the order books for the Volkswagen Golf Mk8. The hatchback will be sold here with the R-Line costume that adds sports-style bits to the exterior and interior.
The sleeker-looking new generation Golf goes to town with a leaner front grille, flanked by equally narrow LED headlights. The front bumper’s design won’t let the hatchback be mistaken for anything else.
Inside, the Golf R-Line takes a turn towards a fully digital interior. Called the ‘Driver’s Workspace’, the plan is to give the driver seamless connectivity and convenience.
On the dashboard is the new-generation 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit. The digitalisation continues to the haptic-touch control multifunction steering wheel and a 10-inch Discover Media infotainment system with navigation.
The R-Line brings to the interior front sport seats wrapped in Sardegna fabric and Art Velours side bolsters. Of course, the R-Line logo is present on the headset.
Another new feature is the compact and innovative new-generation gear selector – it is the first Volkswagen model in Malaysia to carry this.
The Volkswagen Golf runs errands with a 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged engine that produces 150PS and 250Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic shift by wire transmission takes the place of a dual-clutch gearbox. The gear selector, too, has changed to become a more compact stump on the transmission tunnel. Incidentally, the Golf is the first Volkswagen model to have it in Malaysia.
There are five colours to dress your R-Line in. Debuting with the model is the matte Moonstone Grey and metallic Kings Red. The Atlantic Blue metallic, as well as Deep Black and Oryz White pearl effect colours, are also available.
Prices for the Volkswagen Golf R-Line isn’t etched on the metal. However, you can expect the price of the hatchback to be somewhere between RM155,000 to RM165,000. Whichever it is priced, the Golf will come with three-year free maintenance, a five-year unlimited mileage warranty and five-year roadside assistance.
If this Golf R-Line is too pedestrian for your taste, then just-launched CKD Golf GTI or the Golf R could be more your thing.
