Finally, the Honda City gets a hatchback version. Called the Honda City Hatchback, this car might just be Malaysia’s most anticipated car this year. Although it comes to replacing the very practical Honda Jazz, the Hatchback retains all the spatial configurations of its predecessor.

The Honda City Hatchback is blessed with the 4-Modes ULTRA Seats. It is a very useful feature that makes the rear space versatile by allowing the seats to be folded flat or flipped up. There are four configuration modes — Utility, Long, Tall and Refresh. Each mode alters the space to suit the cargo, something all Honda Jazz owners currently enjoy.

Following that, the City Hatchback features a first-in-segment Remote Engine Start; available only for the RS e:HEV and V variants. This feature, similar to the Honda Civic, lets the driver start the engine and air-con remotely before entering the car. In addition, the RS variant also comes with rear air conditioning ventilation and an electric parking brake.

On the outside, the City Hatchback presents a style that would appeal to a younger target market. Exclusive for the City Hatchback RS e:HEV variant, the car comes finished with a high-gloss piano black front grille, black solid wing and gloss black door mirrors. Following that, only the RS version wears the redesigned lower grille, fog garnish and rear bumper. Additionally, a diffuser is designed into the rear bumper to keep the car looking sporty.

LED headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED front fog lights to illuminate the front while the LED rear combo lights alert others of your presence. The Honda City Hatchback is complete with the 16-inch allow wheels.

Two engine choices and all the safety features you want

Either an e:HEV or a petrol engine powers the City Hatchback. The e:HEV’s 1.5-litre Sports intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) is supported by two electric motors. The hybrid powertrain produces 104PS and 253Nm. On the flip side, the 1.5-litre DOHC I-VTEC petrol engine produces 121PS and 145Nm of torque.

Buyers of the RS e:HEV variant will have the Honda SENSING safety suite to back them up. The list of systems under the umbrella includes adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warning, lane keep assist system, road departure mitigation, lane departure warning and auto high beam.

The Honda LaneWatch is available exclusively for the RS e:HEV and V variants. This feature eliminates the left blind spot by displaying a video on that side of the vehicle. LaneWatch is activated when the left signal is engaged or by a button on the signal stalk.

As mentioned, the Honda City Hatchback is now open for booking with prices expected to hover around the City sedan. The Hatchback will launch in the very near future, just so you know.
