Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in Malaysia, has introduced the all-new sixth-generation Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck. With five available variants, this latest iteration of the Triton is a significant upgrade from the previous model, setting new benchmarks in terms of innovation, performance, and design.
This launch marks an important step in Mitsubishi Motors’ ongoing efforts to deliver advanced solutions that cater to the evolving demands of pick-up truck users. The new Triton is designed to offer enhanced driving confidence and superior handling, making it a perfect fit for both adventure enthusiasts and business owners.
Globally recognized for its strong handling, durability, and driving comfort, the Triton is a versatile vehicle suited for both personal and business use. The latest Triton model features a larger body, built on a newly developed frame chassis that ensures greater durability and reliability.
Customers can choose between double cab and single cab variants, depending on their intended use. The double cab option provides two rows of seats, blending the comfort of an SUV with the utility of a pick-up, while the single cab variant offers a more practical layout with a single row of seats.
NEW DIESEL ENGINE AND CHASSIS
The all-new Triton is powered by the newly developed Hyperpower 4N16 diesel engine, available in different outputs to suit various driving needs. The high-performance version in the Triton Athlete comes with a 2.4L turbocharged engine featuring a two-stage system, producing 204PS, 150kW of power, and 470Nm of torque at low revs, delivering a balance between power and efficiency.
Other Triton variants are equipped with a 2.4L 4N16 Turbo Diesel engine that generates 184PS and 430Nm of torque. The Single Cab variant also uses the same clean and efficient 2.4L diesel engine with identical performance figures.
The Triton offers both a six-speed automatic transmission with Sports mode and a six-speed manual transmission, designed to reduce engine vibrations and improve comfort.
Mitsubishi has built the new Triton’s frame chassis using high-tensile materials, which have been rigorously tested on the toughest terrains. The new chassis design boasts a 65% increase in cross-sectional area over the previous model, resulting in 40% better bending rigidity and 60% more torsional rigidity. Despite these improvements, weight increase has been kept to a minimum by maximizing the use of high-tensile steel.
ENHANCED 4WD SYSTEM FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE
The Triton’s 4WD system allows the driver to seamlessly shift between modes while driving, using a dial selector. The Triton Athlete is equipped with Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system, while the other variants come with the Easy Select 4WD system.
The Triton Athlete offers four driving modes: 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (full-time 4WD), 4HLc (locked center differential), and 4LLc (locked center differential with lower gears), alongside seven drive modes that cater to both on-road and off-road conditions. These include Eco mode in 2H, Gravel and Snow modes in 4H, Mud and Sand modes in 4HLc, and Rock mode in 4LLc, providing drivers with the versatility to adapt to any terrain.
The other Triton variants with the Easy Select 4WD system feature 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (locked center differential), and 4L (low gear for rough conditions).
In addition, the Triton Athlete includes Active Yaw Control (AYC), a system that improves cornering by applying light braking to the inner front wheel, enhancing safety on slippery surfaces while adding a sporty driving feel.
MITSUBISHI MOTORS SAFETY SENSING
Select variants of the all-new Triton come with Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS), a comprehensive suite of safety features. This includes Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, ensuring a safer driving experience.
Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC), which enhances stability on winding roads, is standard on all variants. Other standard safety features include Hill Descent Control (HDC), which maintains a steady speed on downhill slopes, and Hill Start Assist (HSA), which prevents the vehicle from rolling backward when starting on an incline.
BEAST MODE DESIGN
The new Triton’s exterior combines agility with Mitsubishi’s signature robust design, giving it a bold and rugged appearance. The front fascia showcases the brand’s Dynamic Shield design concept, emphasizing power and protection with its strong, three-dimensional grille and pronounced fenders.
The Triton’s daytime running lights feature three L-shaped LED lights, inspired by the sharp gaze of a hawk. These are paired with three-light headlights below, giving the Triton a commanding road presence. The solid body lines continue to the rear, where the T-shaped taillights accentuate the truck’s sturdy and wide rear design. The tailgate offers easy access to the enlarged cargo bed, adding further practicality.
Inside, the Triton’s interior focuses on clean, geometric shapes with metallic elements to create a modern and high-contrast look. The cabin is designed for convenience, with generous storage spaces like the glove box and smartphone holder. USB ports are available for charging devices, and the Triton Athlete also includes a wireless charging pad discreetly placed at the bottom of the dashboard.
