People who love the Suzuki Jimny for its rugged looks but not necessarily its number of doors can now get their deposits ready. The Suzuki Jimny 5-door is now available in Malaysia with prices starting close to the RM200,000 mark.
For that you get the same Jimny charms but in a longer body. The overall length of the Jimny 5-door measures to 3,850mm compared to the 3-door’s 3,550mm. The additional 300mm in length equates to a longer wheelbase, an increase in cabin space, additional legroom and a larger cargo area. The wide rear opening makes loading and unloading easier.
On the exterior, the Jimny features LED projector headlamps with washers to ensure illumination is always present, especially of mud gets on it. Bumpers are optimised with angled edges that enhance wheel clearance, while textured sections protects the SUV from damage.
Inside, the Jimny’s minimalistic design cuts distractions from the driver. The dashboard and centre console is designed to improve driver’s awareness of the SUV’s angle. The Jimny 5-door carries the same screens, instrument cluster, switches and buttons from the 3-door. The middle screen gives the driver more information on the Jimny’s status.
In terms of safety, the Jimny features Brake Limited Slip Differential, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Side-Impact Door Beams and 6 airbags on top of the usual modern safety systems like ABS, EBD and ESP.
Driving the Jimny 5-door is a 1.5-litre engine that generates 100hp and 130Nm. A 4-speed automatic transmission is paired with the engine. The highlight of this compact SUV are the new ALLGRIP PRO 4WD, 4-Speed low range transfer gear and LSD Traction Control Brake, giving off-road credentials.
